How Much Does a Man and Van Cost in Liverpool?

By the A Man With A Van Liverpool team · 6 minute read

A man and van in Liverpool with us starts from £50 for a small job, and long distance moves start from £200. What you actually pay depends on how much you’re moving, how far it’s going, how easy the access is at each end, and whether you need extra help with dismantling or packing. The quickest way to get a real figure is to send a few photos and both postcodes on WhatsApp, and we’ll agree a clear price with you before you book.

That’s the short answer. The rest of this guide explains what pushes a price up or down, so you know what to tell us and how to keep your own costs sensible.

What Affects the Price of a Man and Van?

No two jobs are the same. A single sofa going two streets away is a very different job from a full three-bed house heading down the M6. These are the things that make the biggest difference.

How much you’re moving

Volume is the biggest factor. More items means more time loading and unloading, and sometimes more than one trip. A few boxes and a bed for a flat move takes far less time than a family home full of furniture. The more accurately you can tell us what’s going, the more accurate your quote will be.

How far it’s going

A move across Liverpool, say from Wavertree to Aigburth, is mostly about loading time. Once a move leaves the city, the mileage and the hours on the road start to matter more. That’s why long distance removals start from £200 rather than £50. We move people from Liverpool to anywhere in the UK, so tell us both postcodes up front.

Stairs, lifts and access

Access can turn a quick job into a long one. Things worth mentioning when you ask for a quote:

  • Which floor you’re on at each end, and whether there’s a lift that works
  • Narrow hallways or tight turns on the stairs
  • How far the van can park from the front door
  • Whether there’s parking at all, which can be tricky on Liverpool’s terraced streets

A top-floor flat with no lift and a long walk to the van will take longer than a ground-floor house with the van parked outside. Telling us early means the price reflects the real job, with no surprises on the day.

How many helpers you need

Some jobs need an extra pair of hands, especially heavy or awkward items like American fridge freezers, solid wood wardrobes or corner sofas. If you’re happy to help carry, that can sometimes keep things simpler. If you’d rather not lift anything, just say so and we’ll plan for it.

Taking furniture apart

Beds, wardrobes and some tables won’t fit through doors or round bends in one piece. We take furniture apart and put it back together at the other end, but it adds time. If you’d like to do some of it yourself the night before, that’s fine too. Just let us know what will be ready to go.

Packing

We offer full and partial packing. Full packing means we pack everything for you. Partial packing is handy if you’ve done most of it but want help with the kitchen or the fragile bits. Packing yourself is the cheaper option, and our guide on packing fragile items will help you do it properly.

Day of the week and time of the month

Fridays, weekends and the last few days of each month are when most people want to move, because that’s often when tenancies end and house sales complete. Students also all tend to move at the same time at the end of term. If your dates are flexible, a midweek or mid-month slot is often easier to book.

Top tip: do a clear-out before you ask for a quote. Every item you sell, donate or get rid of is one less thing to load, carry and unload, so it can bring the price down.

What Our Prices Start From

As a Liverpool man and van, we keep it simple:

  • From £50 for local jobs around Liverpool, such as a single item delivery or a small collection
  • From £200 for long distance moves out of Liverpool

Those are starting points, not fixed rates for every job. A full house move will cost more than a single armchair, and a move to London will cost more than a move to Bootle. We don’t publish a price list because a list can’t account for the stairs, the parking or the wardrobe that has to come apart. Instead, we look at your actual job and give you a figure for it.

How to Get an Accurate Quote

The most accurate quotes come from photos. A quick look at the rooms and the big items tells us far more than a list ever could. Here’s what to send us on WhatsApp:

  • Photos of each room, or of the items that are going
  • The postcode you’re moving from and the postcode you’re moving to
  • Your preferred date, and whether it’s flexible
  • Any access details, like floors, lifts or parking problems
  • Anything that needs taking apart, and whether you’d like help with packing

We usually reply within the hour. The quote forms on our website open WhatsApp with your details already filled in, so you only need to add the photos. If you’d rather talk it through, you can call us instead. Either way, the number and WhatsApp link are at the bottom of this page.

Why a Clear Price Before You Book Matters

With us, you get a clear price agreed before you book. That matters for a few reasons.

First, you can budget properly. Moving often comes with a lot of other costs, from deposits to solicitors’ fees, so knowing what the van will cost is one less thing to worry about.

Second, it means everyone knows what the job is before the day. If the quote is based on your photos and access details, there’s far less room for misunderstanding when we turn up.

Third, it lets you compare like with like. When you’re weighing up different movers, a clear agreed price is easier to compare than a vague estimate.

The one thing that can change a price is if the job changes. If an extra wardrobe appears, or the van can’t park where we were told it could, we’ll talk to you about it rather than just adding it on. The fairest way to avoid that is to tell us everything up front. Our terms and conditions set out how bookings work.

Other Ways to Keep Your Costs Down

  • Have everything packed and ready. Boxes taped, labelled and stacked near the door save loading time.
  • Sort parking in advance. Ask neighbours to leave a gap or move your own car so the van can park close.
  • Book early. We recommend at least two days’ notice, especially for busy dates. Short notice is often possible, but early booking gives you more choice of time.
  • Be flexible on dates if you can. A midweek move can be easier to fit in.
  • Empty drawers or not? Ask us. Light clothes can sometimes stay in, but heavy items should come out so the furniture is safe to carry.

Are My Things Insured?

Yes. Your belongings are fully insured while they’re in our care. We’ve done more than 300 moves, and we take the same care with a single chair as we do with a whole house.
