Questions People Ask
Can friends share one van?
Yes, if you and your housemates are moving from the same halls to the same house, one van and one price split between you usually works out cheapest.
Group moves work especially well when you’re all going from halls in areas like Kensington and Wavertree into second-year house shares. It’s quicker than several taxi runs, and you only pay one price for the whole job, which you can divide however you like. Everything is loaded and unloaded for you, and it’s fully insured while it’s in our care.
To make it work, agree a time when everyone will be packed and ready, because the van can’t wait for one person who’s still filling bags. Label your things with your name or room, so they go to the right bedroom at the new house. If you’re moving from different halls or flats to the same house, we can often still do it in one run, so send us all the postcodes. When you ask for a quote, tell us how many of you there are and roughly how much stuff each person has. Photos help a lot. Prices start from £50, with a clear price agreed before you book.
Can you take my things home at the end of term?
Yes, we move students from Liverpool to anywhere in the UK, so your things can go home at the end of term without cramming the family car.
End-of-term runs home are handled through our long distance removals, with prices from £200 and a clear price agreed before you book. Whether you’re heading to another part of the North West or the other end of the country, your belongings are loaded, driven and unloaded at your family home, and they’re fully insured while they’re in our care.
If you’re travelling home on the train, it can be easier to have the van take your things separately so you’re not carrying bags across the country. If a few friends are going in the same direction, ask whether we can combine the runs, which could bring the price down. Book as early as you can, because the end of the academic year is our busiest time for student moves. To get a price, send us both postcodes, a rough idea of how much you have, and photos if you can. We can also bring everything back up to Liverpool in September, so you’re set for the new year.
When should I book for move-out week?
Book as early as you can, because the end of the academic year and the start of term are our busiest weeks for student moves.
Lots of tenancies and halls contracts end on the same few days, so those dates fill up quickly, especially at weekends. If you know when your halls contract ends or when your new house tenancy starts, get a quote as soon as you have the dates. Booking a few weeks ahead gives you the best choice of times, and it means you’re not left trying to find a van in the last few days.
Even if your date isn’t fixed, it’s worth getting in touch early so you know the price and we can pencil you in. Agree a date with your housemates first if you’re sharing the van, and check the handover time with your halls or landlord, as some have set check-out times. We work Monday to Sunday, 8am to 9pm, which helps fit around exams. If you’ve left it late, short notice is often possible, so ask anyway through WhatsApp, the quote form or our contact page. We usually reply within the hour, and we’ll tell you the earliest slot we have.
Do I need lots of boxes?
No, bags and suitcases are fine for clothes and bedding, so you only need boxes for books, kitchen stuff and anything that could break.
Most students have more soft items than anything else, and those travel well in suitcases, holdalls and strong bags. Save boxes for heavy things like books and files, kitchen items such as plates, mugs and pans, and anything fragile like lamps, mirrors or a monitor. Keep each box to a weight you can lift yourself, and tape the bottoms well. Supermarkets and shops sometimes have spare boxes, which saves buying new ones.
Label everything with your name and the room it’s going to, especially if you’re sharing a van with housemates, so it all lands in the right bedroom. Pack a small bag with chargers, toiletries, a phone and anything you need on the first night, and keep it with you. Empty and defrost any fridge you’re taking the day before. If your new place is up a few flights of stairs, smaller, lighter bags make the carry quicker, which is something we see a lot on our flat moves. Prices start from £50.
Are you close to the student areas?
Yes, we’re based on Smithdown Road in L7, in the middle of one of Liverpool’s busiest student areas and a short drive from LJMU, the University of Liverpool and Liverpool Hope.
Being local means we know the student streets well, from halls in Kensington and Wavertree to house shares around Smithdown, Garston and Aigburth. We know move-out week gets busy, we know parking on terraced streets can be tight, and we’re used to working around halls check-out times and new tenancy start dates.
It also means short journeys for us on most student moves, so a halls-to-house move across the south of the city is a quick job. We cover every Liverpool postcode, so if your new house is somewhere else in the city, that’s no problem either. Prices start from £50, and you get a clear price agreed before you book, which you can split with your housemates if you share a van. To get a quote, send us both postcodes, how many of you are moving and photos of your stuff. We usually reply within the hour, seven days a week.
Can you take my bed or desk apart?
Yes, we take beds, desks and wardrobes apart where needed and put them back together at your new place.
It’s often the only way to get a bed frame or a large desk down the stairs of a student house, and it means everything travels more safely in the van. We bring our own tools, and the screws and fittings are bagged and kept with each piece, so nothing goes missing between houses. At the new place, we rebuild everything in the right room, so your bed is ready to sleep in that night.
Before we arrive, strip the bedding, empty any drawers and wardrobes, and leave out any instructions for flat-pack furniture. If the furniture belongs to your landlord or the halls rather than you, don’t take it, as it usually needs to stay with the property. Tell us when you ask for a quote which items need taking apart, so we can allow the time. If you’re moving a family-sized amount of furniture or setting up your first proper home after uni, our house moves work the same way. Prices start from £50, with a clear price agreed before you book.
Can you move just one or two items, like a desk or a mattress?
Yes, there’s no minimum job size, so we can move just a desk, a mattress or a few bits.
Plenty of students only have a car-load of things plus one or two items that won’t fit, such as a bed frame, a desk or a mattress. Our single item delivery covers that, and you only pay for what’s being moved. We carry it into the room you want it in, including upstairs, and take it apart and rebuild it if that’s needed to get it through the door.
If you’ve bought a desk, bed or chest of drawers second-hand for your new house, we can collect it from the seller and deliver it to you. Our Marketplace collections are set up for exactly that, and you don’t need to be there at the collection, as long as you’ve paid the seller. When you ask for a quote, send a photo of the item, both postcodes and details of any stairs at either end. Prices start from £50, with a clear price agreed before you book. Small jobs are the easiest to fit in at short notice, too.
Are my belongings insured?
Yes, your belongings are fully insured while they’re in our care, from the moment we load them to the moment we unload them.
That cover applies whether you’re moving a whole room or a single desk. We also take care to avoid damage in the first place: larger items are wrapped in blankets and strapped in the van so they don’t move, furniture is taken apart where it helps, and everything is carried rather than dragged. Laptops, monitors and speakers travel best in their original boxes or wrapped in bedding, so pack them carefully.
Keep your most important things with you rather than in the van, such as your laptop if you have exams, passport, documents, medication and anything of sentimental value. Pack breakables in sturdy boxes and mark them clearly. If anything is particularly valuable or fragile, tell us when you ask for a quote so we can plan how to load it. If you’re in halls, take photos of your room before you leave, which can help with your deposit. You can read how we handle damage, cancellations and items we can’t carry in our terms and conditions.
Can you move me on a weekend or in the evening?
Yes, we work Monday to Sunday, 8am to 9pm, so we can fit around lectures, exams and handover times in halls.
Weekend and evening moves are popular with students, because they don’t clash with timetables or part-time work. If you’re moving on a weekend at the end of term or the start of the academic year, book as early as you can, as those are our busiest times. Weekday slots can be easier to get, so if your timetable allows, it’s worth asking about those too.
Check your halls check-out time or new tenancy start time before you book, because some halls have set hours for leaving and some landlords only hand over keys at certain times. Tell us those times when you ask for a quote and we’ll plan the move around them. If you’re moving with housemates, agree a time when everyone will be packed and ready. We cover all the student areas, from Kensington and Wavertree to Garston and Aigburth, and every other Liverpool postcode. Prices start from £50, with a clear price agreed before you book. We usually reply within the hour.
How do I get a price for a student move?
WhatsApp us both postcodes, how many of you are moving and a rough idea of how much stuff you have, and we’ll come back with a clear price.
Photos help a lot, even just a quick shot of your room and the bags or boxes you’ve packed. You can use the quote form at the top of this page, which opens WhatsApp with your details filled in, or message us directly on 07552 999 177. If you’d rather talk, call 0151 272 3467 or use our contact page. We usually reply within the hour, seven days a week.
Mention any furniture that’s going, such as a bed, desk or chest of drawers, and whether it needs taking apart. Tell us which floor you’re on at both ends and whether there’s a lift, and what parking is like. If you’re sharing a van with housemates, give us a rough idea of how much each person has, and we’ll price the whole job so you can split it. Local student moves start from £50. If your things are going home to another part of the UK, our long distance removals start from £200. Book early for move-out week.
