Moving Day Tips

How to Get Ready for Moving Day

A bit of prep makes the day quicker, cheaper and a lot less stressful. Here’s what we tell our customers.

1

Book Early

Give us at least two days’ notice. Fridays, weekends and the end of the month go first.

2

Sort Parking

Keep a space free outside both homes if you can. On busy Liverpool terraced streets, it saves a lot of carrying.

3

Label Your Boxes

Write the room on each box. It means everything lands in the right place first time.

4

Pack a Day-One Bag

Kettle, mugs, phone chargers, toilet roll and bedding. Keep it with you, not in the van.

5

Defrost the Freezer

Switch it off and drain it the day before so it’s dry and safe to move.

6

Clear Out First

Fewer things to move means a quicker move. We can take unwanted furniture away for you.

FAQs

Questions People Ask

How much does a house move in Liverpool cost?

The cost of a house move depends on how much you’re moving, how far it’s going and how easy the access is at both ends, and prices start from £50.

A one-bed terrace moving a couple of miles will cost much less than a four-bed family home going across the region, simply because it needs less time and less space in the van. Stairs, lifts, long walks from the van to the door and tricky parking all add time, so they affect the price too. Taking furniture apart and rebuilding it is included, while packing is available if you want it.

To get an accurate figure, send us photos of each room with both postcodes, tell us which floor you’re on at each end, and mention any large or awkward items. You’ll get a clear price agreed before you book, with no extras added on the day. You can lower the cost by clearing out before the move. We can take old furniture away through our furniture removal service, which saves you paying to move things you don’t want. Send your details through the quote form or our contact page, and we usually reply within the hour.

How far in advance should I book my house move?

Book at least two days before your moving date, and earlier if you’re moving on a Friday, a weekend or at the end of the month.

Those dates fill up first because they’re when most tenancies end and most house sales complete. Booking early gives you the widest choice of start times and lets us plan the van and the day properly. If your completion date isn’t confirmed yet, it’s still worth getting a quote now so you know the price, and then fixing the date once your solicitor or landlord confirms it.

For moves out of Merseyside, give us as much notice as you can, because long distance removals take up more of the day and need more planning. Local moves are easier to fit in, whether you’re going from one street to the next in Wavertree or across the city. If you’ve left it late, don’t assume it’s too late. Short notice is often possible, so send us photos and both postcodes and we’ll tell you the earliest slot we have. Once you’re booked, we’ll confirm the date and the time we’ll arrive.

Do you take beds and wardrobes apart?

Yes, we take apart beds, wardrobes and tables at your old house and put them back together at your new one.

It’s included in every house move, so you don’t need to arrange a separate handyman. Taking furniture apart gets it through narrow doorways and round tight landings without marking the walls, and it loads more securely in the van. We bring our own tools, and screws and fittings are bagged and kept with each piece, so nothing goes missing between houses. The same applies if you’re moving somewhere smaller, and our flat moves deal with this all the time.

You can help by emptying wardrobes and drawers before we arrive, stripping beds, and leaving out any instructions you still have for flat-pack furniture. When you ask for a quote, list the items that need taking apart, so we can allow the right amount of time. At the new house, tell us which room each piece belongs in and we’ll rebuild it there, so you’re not sleeping on a mattress on the floor the first night. Ask us to rebuild the beds first if you’d like, so you can get some rest after a long day.

Can you pack for me?

Yes, we offer full and partial packing, so you can leave as much of the boxing up to us as you like.

Full packing means the whole house is packed and ready to load when the van arrives, which suits people who are working up to the move or juggling children. Partial packing is popular for the rooms that take the longest, such as the kitchen, or for fragile things like glassware, mirrors and ornaments. Either way, your belongings are packed properly, which speeds up loading and reduces breakages.

Tell us about packing when you ask for a quote, with photos of the rooms you’d like help with, so we can include it in your price and allow the time. If you’re doing some of it yourself, start a week or two early, use strong boxes for heavy things like books, and write the room on each box so it lands in the right place first time. Keep a day-one bag with the kettle, mugs, chargers, toilet roll and bedding, and keep it with you rather than in the van. Packing is available for local moves across the city, including house moves in Allerton, and for moves further afield.

Are my belongings insured during the move?

Yes, your belongings are fully insured while they’re in our care, from loading at your old house to unloading at your new one.

Insurance is the safety net, but most of the work goes into making sure it’s never needed. Furniture is wrapped in blankets and strapped in so it can’t move in transit, larger pieces are taken apart so they don’t catch on doorframes and banisters, and everything is carried rather than dragged. We place each item in the room you want it in, so there’s no extra lifting once we’ve gone.

You can help protect your things by packing fragile items in sturdy boxes with plenty of padding and marking them clearly, and by telling us about anything valuable, delicate or very heavy when you ask for a quote. Keep jewellery, important documents, medication and cash with you rather than in the van. If you’d like to know how we handle damage, cancellations and items we can’t carry, it’s all set out in our terms and conditions. Read them before you book, and ask us if anything isn’t clear, so you know exactly where you stand on the day.

Do you move people out of Liverpool?

Yes, we move people from Liverpool to anywhere in the UK, and we collect from anywhere within around 100 miles of Liverpool.

Moving out of the city is handled by our long distance removals service, with prices from £200 and a clear price agreed before you book. Whether you’re heading to Manchester, London or somewhere further, you get the same service as a local move: loading and unloading, furniture taken apart and rebuilt, blanket wrapping, and everything fully insured while it’s in our care.

Long moves need a bit more planning, so book as early as you can and tell us about the access at the new address, including stairs, lifts and parking. If you’re collecting keys on the day, let us know the time you expect to get them, and we’ll plan the drive around it. Moving within Merseyside is just as straightforward. We cover every Liverpool postcode, plus the Wirral, Sefton, Knowsley and St Helens, and you can check your area on our areas we cover page. For a price, send us photos of each room, both postcodes and your preferred date.

Can you plan the move around my completion time?

Yes, tell us your completion date and when you expect to get the keys, and we’ll plan loading and unloading around it.

Completion day rarely runs to the minute. Money has to move between solicitors before keys are released, and that can take until the afternoon. The usual approach is to load at your old house in the morning, so you’re ready to go, and then drive over and unload once the keys are in your hand. That way you’re not left sitting outside the new place with a full van, and the old house is empty in time for the buyers.

When you ask for a quote, give us your completion date, the time your solicitor expects the funds to clear, and whether you’re in a chain. Book early if you can, because Fridays and the end of the month are the most popular completion days. On the day, keep your phone on and tell us as soon as you hear the keys are ready. We’re open Monday to Sunday, 8am to 9pm, so there’s room to work around delays, whether you’re moving across West Derby or further afield.

What if there’s no parking outside my house?

Let us know when you ask for a quote, and if you can, keep a space free outside both homes on moving day.

Parking close to the door makes a big difference. On busy terraced streets, a long walk from the van to the front door adds time to every trip, which means a longer move. Ask a neighbour if you can use the space outside their house for the morning, or move your own car so the van can pull in. If you’re moving into a block with a car park or loading bay, ask the building manager or landlord to reserve a space for the day.

Tell us what the street is like at both ends: whether it’s permit parking, a narrow road, a main road with restrictions or a cul-de-sac. Photos of the front of the house help too. That lets us plan the time properly and give you an accurate price, so nothing changes on the day. Whether you’re moving out of Anfield or into Toxteth, a bit of planning on parking saves a lot of carrying. If parking turns out to be difficult, we’ll do our best to work with what’s there.

Can you take away furniture I’m not keeping?

Yes, we can take unwanted furniture and household items away on the same day as your move.

It saves you paying to move things you don’t want and stops the new house filling up with the old sofa. Common items include sofas, mattresses, bed frames, wardrobes, tables and drawers. This is covered by our furniture removal service, which takes furniture and household items only, not general waste. That means no bags of rubbish, garden waste or building rubble.

Tell us what’s going when you ask for a quote, ideally with photos, so we can include it in the price and plan the space in the van. Keep the items you’re getting rid of separate from the things you’re taking, or label them clearly, so there’s no confusion on the day. If you’re not moving house and just need one or two large items taken to a family member or a new flat, our single item service is set up for that. Either way, you get a clear price before you book. Clearing out before you move also means a quicker move, which can bring the cost down.

Do you do house moves at weekends?

Yes, we do house moves seven days a week, Monday to Sunday, from 8am to 9pm.

Weekends are popular because most people don’t need to take time off work, so Saturdays and Sundays tend to book up first, along with Fridays and the end of the month. If you have a weekend date in mind, book as early as you can, ideally a week or more ahead. We recommend at least two days’ notice for any move, although short notice is often possible if we have a free slot.

An early start works best for a house move, because it leaves the rest of the day for unloading, rebuilding furniture and getting the beds made. Weekday moves can be easier to fit in, so if your date is flexible, it’s worth asking about those too. To book, send photos of each room and both postcodes through the quote form, WhatsApp or our contact page, and tell us which days work for you. We usually reply within the hour, and we cover the whole of Merseyside, including weekend moves in Crosby and the rest of Sefton.
